Styling Culottes

I’m definitely a late adopter of the culottes trend. My first impression of the trend was…who brought these back from the 90s? At a glance these wide legged pants strip femininity away from any outfit, and if people are going to wear it like a maxi skirt, then why not just wear a maxi skirt? So I went from the initial resistance, to repeatedly seeing these everywhere I go, to finally giving in to the FOMO (fear of missing out) mindset that “If others can rock it, then I can too”. It didn’t take long before I realized the benefits of wearing culottes, it intelligently hides shape imperfections on the lower body, such as a overly wide or narrow hip, thicker thigh areas and lack of perfectly straight legs. The biggest sell point is obviously the comfort, it’s not an overstatement when I say these are more comfortable than sweatpants, and at the same time easily score higher on the chic meter. To contrast the loose and wide bottom, I threw on a simple crop tube top in the opposing shade. Nothing sets black & …

Styling Blue Lace

Lace – a French thing, a graceful embellishment to any outfits. I always felt like it isn’t for everyone, because sometimes it just feels like too much for casual wear due to its noble lineage – it requires advanced handcraft to put together, and it’s seen very often in haute couture and wedding dresses. I also feel like although elegant, the garment itself looks very busy, and it always ends up stealing the focus of the look instead of complimenting the complexion. I purchased this collared blue lace top from Zara, thinking I should add some mature and sexy vibes to my wardrobe. How did I do? Although with the addition of the Peter Pan collar, I might’ve ended up looking more cute and preppy than mature. A key suggestion is to always wear skin colored garment or underwear beneath any colored sheer lace top to avoid having too much going on, or else it really takes away from the design, and further pans the simplicity. The fashion police says you should not have more than three colors in one outfit, so I took the liberty of wearing a red lipstick …

More on Asymmetry

The sweater is a gift from my aunt while I was on vacation in China. Needless to say I love everything about it. If you read my earlier post featuring asymmetry, this is an addition to the collection – asymmetrical sleeves. Enjoy 🙂 Hope you liked the look! (:

Asymmetry

I love asymmetry in fashion. It can take form in dresses, tunics, skirts, coats and accessories. They add to an outfit a vibe that is artsy, edgy, trendy and youthful. Asymmetric dresses and tops are great because of their flexibility, they can layer over skinny jeans and leggings, or worn with shorts in warmer temperatures. My favorite asymmetric clothing piece is the famously flowy high-low skirt, and for accessories, instead of the traditional matching duo, I am much more into ones with uneven designs on each ear. Here I’m embracing my favorite high-low with an interesting vertical line that’s both slimming and elongating. It took me exactly 1 second to decide on this purchase from Zara, it was a no-brainer as I loved everything about it – it’s grey, it has a short turtleneck, and it’s got side slits to the inner high-low tunic, an unique and worthwhile ensemble. Oh! I got a new Ted Baker! Adorable right? 🙂 Hope you liked the look lovelies!

Spring Camel Coat II

In my previous post Spring Camel Coat I, I mentioned that I like to wear my timeless coat in different ways to embrace versatility. And here it is as promised 🙂 The best part is that nothing dramatic was done to the look, what I did involved losing some womanly pieces (stockings and scarf) along with the addition of my personal favorite Superstars. A big contributor to the alteration is actually a sneaky unnoticeable one – unbuttoning the coat. Buttoned coats/jackets/blazers project a clean polished feel (an Asian parent favorite), my father always gives me a hard time about how sloppy I look without doing up the buttons, but ladies, it’s OK to be a rebel in fashion! If you’re looking to transform your classy outerwear into something with more casual feel, try undoing the buttons and losing the heels (did I just rhyme?). 🙂 Check out Spring Camel Coat I if you haven’t already, which look did you guys like more?

Spring Camel Coat I

“In the Spring, I have counted 136 different kinds of weather inside of 24 hours.” -Mark Twain. A quote that cannot describe Toronto weather better. It’s almost mid April, and there’s been an uncanny mixture of sunlight, rain and snow (yes, snow, as matter of fact I’m seeing snowflakes outside right at this moment). I like mild seasons, but I’ll take Fall over Spring any day – it’s just a lot more mature and stable. Although, if I were to give Spring some credit, I do think it’s quite a symbolic season. To me it can symbolize a fresh start, perhaps aspire for something new and adventurous along with the blooming trees and flowers; it goes without saying that it ain’t easy to start anything, hence it isn’t always going to be petals and sunshine. There will be rainy chilly days, but we’ll adapt, and eventually smell the petrichor that accompanies the rain. How can we moderate the bumpiness of spring you ask? The answer is obvious! – be stylish, with some spring camel coats :-). Some fashion trends fade, some make come backs with time, and some others have staying …

Neutral Valentine’s

Happy Valentine’s everyone! Hope you got to spend it with the one you love, and if you’re single like me, definitely don’t let anything stop us from being happy on Valentine’s Day! I came across this article on WikiHow on How to Be Happy Being Single on Valentine’s Day, thought I’d share with you single beautifuls out there ❤ Unfortunately I don’t have an festive valentine’s outfit for you guys.Instead this was another neutral outfit that I thought would look cute in the winter. I’ve always had a thing for fuzzy and comfortable sweaters. Although I have to say it’s not always the most obvious choice to match a chunky sweater with cotton material skirt. It’ll generally create a top or bottom heavy look. I threw on a pair of ankle boots in black to balance out this top heaviness through symmetry. You guys already know I love shades, and grey is my new favorite from the family. For accessories, especially sweater accessories, always stick with simplicity! This isn’t a plain outfit due to the furry feels, so accessories aren’t center of the attention, they …

Turtleneck Weather

Happy Sunday everyone! Let’s speak turtle neck. (I found something interesting today called the Turtle Neck club for fashion elites, hahaha genius) I’ve always doubted turtlenecks on me because I felt like it only suits others with thin sharp faces. I still think that,I just refused to listen to my fashion instincts any longer and miss out on the countless turtleneck benefits. Brownie points for getting out the comfort zone? 🙂 Turtleneck benefits include: It’s hella warm! Enables the classic high longevity silhouette If it’s a tight one (unlike this one), it draws attention to the bust area and accentuates the feminine figure Easy to match, great layering piece and works with pretty much any pants Easiest way to a sleek and fashionable vibe in winter, always The interesting thing about fashion is that it doesn’t take someone who’s gifted with sense of style to be fashionable. Sometimes it just takes someone a little different, a little bold, who can back that all up with confidence. Hope you lovelies liked this look, and my DW watch! (I finally got one! Also in a different …

Cotton Candy

All designers want their work to stand out, and color palettes are a powerful tool as they draw attention and showcase creativity. A growing trend in web design is the use of less dominant colors, along with a shift towards pastel colors. Pastel colors are simply magical to me, while being peaceful and modest, they project a vibe of positivity and warmth. It requires the right kind of mix to achieve a good balance between color and tone when wearing light colors, since it’s easy to look washed out. Here’s an outfit I put together, casual, brightening, along with a bag from Kate Spade that reminds me of cotton candy.       As usual, hope you guys liked the outfit. I know my sense of style isn’t for everyone, so thanks for your support along the way. ❤
