Wide-leg Jeans Anyone?

If there is one denim style to try this season, it’s hands down the cropped wide-leg jeans. Wide-leg jeans feature a wide opening from your thighs and down. At a glance they may not look as hot and dainty as skinnys, but they are easily the epitome of casual chic. It takes a shape that is much more forgiving than tapered pants, you’ll especially love how straight and long your legs will look in them. I’m a big fan of matching anything wide-leg with fitted tops to create a flattering silhouette with top-down contrast. Who knew, that the iconic 70’s apparel would make such a strong come back. 8) Thanks for reading lovelies! ❤ Apologies for the poor image quality. The camera sensitivity had to be turned to very high because the shoot was the sunset hour.

Styling Faux Fur

What comes to mind when you think about wearing fur? I personally think of couture, statement, luxury, and maybe freezing cold, haha. I’ve recently discovered a new found appreciation for it as I looked for winter outfit alternatives. I’ve now officially ventured into the world of faux fur coats and I can’t seem to stop. It’s addictive. I’ve always thought fur coats are very pretty but happily stayed away because I wasn’t sure how to style it without it looking a little “too much”, and that hasn’t changed, I still think it can look excessive, I just no longer have a problem with it. 🙂 Why should you limit yourself from wearing what you feel like on any given day? I’ve picked up this gorgeous fur coat in pink from Shein.com and it’s a great buy, it kept me warm on this zero degree weather and it just looks so chic. It’s on sale so click here to check it out! How to accessorize: Remember, it’s a coat, but it’s also a fancy accessory because of the fur, so you …

Thigh High Boots

Lovelies! I know it’s been weeks since I blogged, but I’ve got some really good excuses – life has been keeping me ultra busy! I do have exciting updates to make up for it though 🙂 In the past 3 weeks, I vacationed to Las Vegas, and Los Angeles. I took lots of photos in LA so expect a series of outfit posts! I think I’m going to name it the “Val goes to Cali” series. I’ve also been occupied with paperwork…because I’ll be starting my a new job next week, who’s excited with me?! 🙂 Without deviating any further from the subject – here I have a recent favorite outfit to share featuring my newly purchased thigh-high boots! I’ve been a non-believer of thigh-highs for as long as I can remember, but this season I decided to give this trend a chance, annnnnnd I LOVE them! Whether in leather or suede, flat or platformed, these shoes are statement pieces that are surprisingly functional in cold weather. Pull them over skinny jeans/leggings, with an oversized sweater, or with a cute & …

More on Asymmetry

The sweater is a gift from my aunt while I was on vacation in China. Needless to say I love everything about it. If you read my earlier post featuring asymmetry, this is an addition to the collection – asymmetrical sleeves. Enjoy 🙂 Hope you liked the look! (:

Sleeveless Waterfall Coat

Temperature in Toronto has been consistently floating around 5 degrees and it actually brings such a fashion challenge. What the weather entails is that I need to prepare for layers, especially since it’s too warm for winter parkas and too cold for spring coats. I’ve never been a fan of layering because while doing it right can be chic and powerful, it’s also easy to look chunky and noisy. However the most important thing that I’d like to promote is to obviously stay warm! The general formula includes – warm and comfy piece on your skin, like silk/cotton undershirt + a decently thick piece such as a hoodie/sweater/cardigan + a 3rd conclusive piece in wool material which keeps you dry and warm + optional step to accessorize to your heart’s content with scarves and boots. Here I’m wearing a long body hugging turtleneck  sweater, wool sleeveless waterfall coat, and some black chunky heels to finish off the look. I definitely think this outfit is more fall appropriate rather than for spring, but I was just so in love with my virgin sleeveless coat – it’s one of those pieces that …

Colors of Spring

Weather in Toronto has been switching between summer and spring for the month of May. It has been raining a lot in the past weeks, so it’s safe to say that it’s still spring 🙂 Some people call Spring the awkward in between season, because you can’t fully say goodbye to your sweaters, but you can’t bust out your summer wardrobe either. So I decided to put together an outfit that accommodates this weather. Top – From an Asian boutique, it’s wool & cotton material, which keeps me warm from occasional chilly breeze, but at the same time it’s light in color and also sleeveless, making it a piece more suited for warmer seasons. I love the ruffles around the neckline, dressing up the top! Skirt – I avoided summer skirts made of silk or light cotton material, and wore a faux leather skirt which adds an element of weight to the outfit, making it more appropriate for this in between season. Stockings – As an attempt to stay warm, I wore black stockings with about medium level of sheerness. Shoes – …

Denim Suspenders

Yep, back with another suspenders look 🙂 (And there will be more!) I’ll try not to bore you with all these suspenders but I just love love love them! 🙂 Suspenders are from Suzy Shier, at about $50. Suzy’s stuff is stylish but the quality isn’t the best – so I’d consider this a splurge actually. The tee is from Zara, it was only around $15! Loved the simple white Tee and loved the message on it – No one is perfect! I recently wrote about not letting perfect be the enemy of good, feel free to check it out here. Isn’t this the most adorable necklace? It’s an owl on a chain! If you aren’t a style blogger you may not appreciate how hard it is to find a nice setting to shoot! Luckily there is a beach nearby my place, surrounded by interesting buildings and parks. I was thrilled to have found this little corner 🙂 The shoes are also from Suzy’s! This was on sale, under $10! If you are into comfortable shoes, these are heavenly! …

Supergirl & Her Suspenders Pt.II

Hi everyone, just yesterday I posted Part I of this post, Supergirl & Her Suspenders. This is a continuation of the post and I’ll focus more on the accessories. I bought the hat at Armani Exchange, when I still worked there. Their stuff in general is quite similar to Guess – which means it’s hit or miss for me. I did get employee discount for the hat 🙂 It was originally about $50. I must say it was love at first sight with the shoes, isn’t it just amazing?! This was $45 dollars from an Asian boutique. It isn’t as heavy as it looks, in fact it is quite light and I love that I can run in them! 😛 The sell point was definitely the platform section – horizontal yellow stripes? sign me up! I also adored the shoelace, it is almost 2cm wide, and hence works PERFECTLY with the whole chunky look. By the end of the shoot I needed to relax a bit and enjoy the amazing weather! Let it all go 🙂 Yes this shirt is potentially a boyfriend Tee, it’s really …

Supergirl & Her Suspenders

Hey everyone! I’m back with two personal favorites – Suspenders and Superman. Superman’s been my favorite superhero since I was a little girl, I just couldn’t pass on this Tee when I spotted it at H&M! It was about $15. It is cotton and very light, perfect for days with big sun! The suspenders shorts with leather straps were $50 from Guess. I rarely shop at Guess any more, but I must admit they have some pretty unique chic stuff. Aside from the leather straps, I also loved the color fade on the shorts! It is quite hard to have fades on dark colored jeans without it looking cheap, but Guess pulled it off well with this design! I threw on a fedora hat to dress up the outfit, although there are many types of hats that would work with suspenders, such as caps or trucker hats if you are going for a naughty look. I certainly did not think any earrings would work with this outfit, so I decided to stay away from anything dangly …

Pop of Color

The weather in Toronto is gorgeous this weekend! I’m switching my wardrobe to the summer set already! Here’s a little grey dress, one of my favorites to go with the beautiful weather 🙂 I actually got this dress from online (i believe it was YesStyle), for no more than $25 – I was drawn to how flirty this little dress looked, and decided to give it a try, and I can honestly say this is one of my best purchases! It is extremely fitting and comfortable to wear, and the material is not the least bit flimsy. It IS a tad short, so I actually wore safety shorts under :-). The outfit was neutral toned, so I wanted to add a pop of color to welcome summer on its way – my red platforms. I do think the shoes would have looked better with a black dress instead of grey, but dark grey and red work fine together as well, now you know :-). Not only was my dress grey, my accessories are also bordering grey/silver. The …
