Embroidery

Whether it is to stand out on the streets, or to feel youthful, embroidery and patches has become the hottest go-to for the younger generations today. Women’s dress shirts and denim bomber jackets are where embroideries or patches are most commonly seen.  And this sunny LA afternoon is no exception. In an earlier post, I’ve demonstrated the rebellious and trendy look of patches on denim bomber, and here I took a different spin on the trend, which touches deeper of the oriental roots. The origins of embroidery can be traced back to Ancient China, where people would sew and capture the beauty of nature (i.e. flowers) and animals (i.e. dragons) on garments as decorations. Because they’re often patched onto silk garments, it was considered a luxury and only the wealthy had the privilege. When I spotted this jacket from Zara, I was instantly drawn to that very combination nostalgically presented on a modern bomber.

Styling Waterfall Coat

Christmas and new years in Toronto are always so cold that I find myself constantly shopping for outerwear during this season. I fell in love with this waterfall coat the moment I saw it on sale on Shein.com. I adored the neutral tone and the ankled length – making it a classic timeless piece. In general waterfall coats are versatile, in winter it’s best matched with turtle necks and jeans whereas in spring and fall you can rock it with a simple tee or tank. This coat is medium in thickness so it’s even more flexible and seasons friendly, remember to always wear some pumps for additional sass and flare and let the coat fall beautifully at your ankles. ❤ P.S. Happy new year everyone! I had a great 2016 and I welcome 2017 with open arms 🙂 As a fashion new year resolution, I plan to be more adventurous and open to experiment with new styles, I’m optimistic that pleasant surprises await me 🙂 Outfit Details: Jacket – Shein | Jeans – Zara | Shoes – Aldo | Sweater – Boutique Thank you for reading lovelies, what …

Thigh High Boots

Lovelies! I know it’s been weeks since I blogged, but I’ve got some really good excuses – life has been keeping me ultra busy! I do have exciting updates to make up for it though 🙂 In the past 3 weeks, I vacationed to Las Vegas, and Los Angeles. I took lots of photos in LA so expect a series of outfit posts! I think I’m going to name it the “Val goes to Cali” series. I’ve also been occupied with paperwork…because I’ll be starting my a new job next week, who’s excited with me?! 🙂 Without deviating any further from the subject – here I have a recent favorite outfit to share featuring my newly purchased thigh-high boots! I’ve been a non-believer of thigh-highs for as long as I can remember, but this season I decided to give this trend a chance, annnnnnd I LOVE them! Whether in leather or suede, flat or platformed, these shoes are statement pieces that are surprisingly functional in cold weather. Pull them over skinny jeans/leggings, with an oversized sweater, or with a cute & …

New Height

I’m a believer that our attires should reflect who we are and bring the best out of us. Given that I have a multi-faceted personality, I do have a lot of freedom in expressing myself through fashion. And this one is the little rebel in me. It’s a rather masculine look – all black, Adidas footwear, and a dress that doesn’t hug my body. The choker is the cherry on top, but what puts things into perspectives is the frontal low cut that adds femininity to the look. As an Asian girl growing up in Western society, I had my fair share of insecurities for my body, and there were certain styles that I thought I’d never experiment with despite my appreciation for them. It isn’t until recent years when I realized that if you adore a style, then you have it in you. You can pull off whatever the heck you want to reflect your personal style as long as you do it with confidence, and believe that this is you. With every new thing I try, I open a door of possibility; and with …

More on Asymmetry

The sweater is a gift from my aunt while I was on vacation in China. Needless to say I love everything about it. If you read my earlier post featuring asymmetry, this is an addition to the collection – asymmetrical sleeves. Enjoy 🙂 Hope you liked the look! (:

Cotton Candy

All designers want their work to stand out, and color palettes are a powerful tool as they draw attention and showcase creativity. A growing trend in web design is the use of less dominant colors, along with a shift towards pastel colors. Pastel colors are simply magical to me, while being peaceful and modest, they project a vibe of positivity and warmth. It requires the right kind of mix to achieve a good balance between color and tone when wearing light colors, since it’s easy to look washed out. Here’s an outfit I put together, casual, brightening, along with a bag from Kate Spade that reminds me of cotton candy.       As usual, hope you guys liked the outfit. I know my sense of style isn’t for everyone, so thanks for your support along the way. ❤

OOTD: Too Sunny

This was one of those hot days I actually wished I didn’t step out the door.  The sun was in my eyes, I couldn’t not look at the camera for more than 2 seconds, and if you thought the hat helped…it didnt…I was also wearing these ombre hair extensions, but since they aren’t long enough, they just ended up looking like highlights, not to mention they add to the heat too, ughh. …Alright, that’s probably enough complaining in one post… 🙂 Now, some positivity! I’ve always wanted to try a dress that’s a T-shirt in disguise, like this one! It has a slit on the side, so there are many ways I could style for the bottom, such as a long  pencil skirt, a pair of shorts, or some long skinnys with heels. I decided to go with shorts because as I mentioned in my rant above, it was one hell of a hot day. The coolest part of this is that it’s actually a high-low tee! Thought it was pretty cute and found the concept …

Off The Shoulder

OK, everyone must know how much I adore suspenders by now – denim, long, short, leather straps, love’em all! (but maybe no clip-ons for me). This is a new one I purchased from Guess a while ago, I convinced myself that this was a must have because I don’t own suspenders in white… 🙂 Originally suspenders were worn because they were functional – fabric or leather straps worn over the shoulders to hold up pants. But gradually they were being worn for looks and have been diligently shifting in and out of fashion. I remember seeing old pictures of my mom wearing suspenders before my time, and me thinking that although cute, they were just WAY too yesterday and old fashioned. And look at me now… who could predict? 🙂 the runways possibly… In my previous looks I consistently wore Tees with my suspenders, this time I decided to change that up by going from preppy to flirty 😉 The other highlight has got to be the Zooshoo heels, I love how lengthy they make my legs look alongside the comfort and ease to walk in! 🙂

Vivre Montréal

As part of being Asian, I’ve visited many places with my family as tourists who do touristy things, such as: Wake up early so we have a whole day ahead of us to cover all those places mentioned on the internet Endless amount of photo taking only to look the same in every photo Everything is on schedule with lack of spontaneity Due to #1, we always sleep early, because we’re just way too cool for night life No souvenirs! Cuz you know, they are overpriced and are Made In China anyways It’s good to be organized while on vacation, but rules take the fun out of it! I’ve been to Montreal several times, but this time, I headed over to experience something else 🙂 What didn’t disappoint was definitely the fact that I could make my own schedule – visited places include landmarks (I tried Uber!), bars, downtown streets, steakhouse, icecream store and arcade! There are also so many cool places to take pictures at! Having heard a lot about people always looking fancy dandy over here in Montreal, I certainly wanted to impress, not …
