Lilac

Since the spring/summer 2018, Lilac has become the colour of the season. We’re all aware that pastel hues have enjoyed the newfound popularity for some time, but none have been more pervasive than lilac. It may have been a shade of your eye shadow in middle school, but this pale incarnation of purple was revived at Victoria Beckham in the form of suits, as well as at Tibi with midi-length, loose-fitting dresses. To many of us, lilac is perceived as more summer-friendly, but undoubtedly it can also serve well as a pop of color in the cooler weathers.

Shades of Grey

Not everything in life is black and white, and often times we end up in the ominous grey areas. Whether it’s work or relationships, lack of definition tend to usually bring about confusion and complicate situations. Subsequently what makes it worse is that rather than seeking clarity, we like to be safe and stay where we are, and end up getting comfortable in the grey areas. Sometimes, a little bravery is all it takes to change things. While grey areas aren’t always perceived positively, they can be a great outfit choice. Over here I’m throwing together shades of grey of various fabric to create a coherent outfit that has both dimension and definition. In case you weren’t aware, neutrals head-to-toe has always been best recipe for a chic look.

Wide-leg Jeans Anyone?

If there is one denim style to try this season, it’s hands down the cropped wide-leg jeans. Wide-leg jeans feature a wide opening from your thighs and down. At a glance they may not look as hot and dainty as skinnys, but they are easily the epitome of casual chic. It takes a shape that is much more forgiving than tapered pants, you’ll especially love how straight and long your legs will look in them. I’m a big fan of matching anything wide-leg with fitted tops to create a flattering silhouette with top-down contrast. Who knew, that the iconic 70’s apparel would make such a strong come back. 8) Thanks for reading lovelies! ❤ Apologies for the poor image quality. The camera sensitivity had to be turned to very high because the shoot was the sunset hour.

The Timeless Dress

Maybe practicality comes with age. Working in financial services have me hording neutral basics and professional attire constantly. It hasn’t always been this way though, I never had much fashion dilemma and used to get my hands on anything that caught my eye (while still trying to be frugal, somehow). There was something great about owning unique and inspiring pieces despite not having the occasions for them. For instance, this dress right here was purchased long time back, the moment I spotted it I knew it belonged with me. But it wasn’t a justifiable purchase by any means since 1) I couldn’t pull it off as casual wear 2) there were no fancy occasions coming up and 3) it was winter time. Nevertheless, the optimist in me always felt confident that it’d eventually come in handy. As part of my Euro trip, I thought it was the absolute perfect opportunity to pack the dress. Wearing a head turning dress and looking fabulous while carelessly roaming the romantic streets of Paris? Sign me up.

Summer Sets

In the previous post I jotted down my enthused thoughts on wardrobe sets, and here I continue the momentum and return with a newly purchased summer set from shein.com. What instantly attracted me to this ensemble were the little details – the delicate ruffles and the rope-like adjustable strings casually sitting on the top, adding both country and innocent vibes. This was also an outfit that screamed summer which Toronto simply hasn’t gotten enough of this year, so to compensate for it I embrace every opportunity to indulge myself with sunshine. To go with the look, I wore my favorite summer glasses and my star-shaped earrings to add some complimentary warm tones to the outfit with their gold accents.

Styling Waterfall Coat

Christmas and new years in Toronto are always so cold that I find myself constantly shopping for outerwear during this season. I fell in love with this waterfall coat the moment I saw it on sale on Shein.com. I adored the neutral tone and the ankled length – making it a classic timeless piece. In general waterfall coats are versatile, in winter it’s best matched with turtle necks and jeans whereas in spring and fall you can rock it with a simple tee or tank. This coat is medium in thickness so it’s even more flexible and seasons friendly, remember to always wear some pumps for additional sass and flare and let the coat fall beautifully at your ankles. ❤ P.S. Happy new year everyone! I had a great 2016 and I welcome 2017 with open arms 🙂 As a fashion new year resolution, I plan to be more adventurous and open to experiment with new styles, I’m optimistic that pleasant surprises await me 🙂 Outfit Details: Jacket – Shein | Jeans – Zara | Shoes – Aldo | Sweater – Boutique Thank you for reading lovelies, what …

Fur Vests – Fall Cozy Chic

I’d say furry vest is a signature fall garment, suited for the cooler temperature and season of layering. But rather than a fashion staple, it’s more of a statement piece with a touch of extravagance and luxury. This is a throw back outfit, as you can see my hair was still black :-). I rocked this vest with some basic blacks – tee, watch and boots, along with some accessories that screamed “look at me!”. The best thing about fur vests is that you really don’t need to put much thoughts into the styling. It may not seem like it, but it’s extremely versatile. An oxford shirt, a cocktail dress, a sweater, a silky dress-shirt – wear it with anything you want, a fur vest up top will instantly amp up the chic! And of course, the cozy. If you don’t believe me, check out the Pinterest page for fur vests outfits, it’s so hard to go wrong! Although this was a bigger trend years back, don’t let your fur vests collect dust in the closet! 🙂

About Me

Why hello there (: I haven’t yet introduced myself, so I wanted to say… Thanks for stopping by! That First Hello has been my creation since late 2014, a special little space I dedicate to my love for fashion, style and anything beautiful. I am by no means a guru in fashion, I am simply an enthusiast and agree with Blair Waldorf that fashion is a powerful art – it’s movement, design, and architecture all in one. It shows the world who we are and who we’d like to be. I love sunshine, green tea, designer bags and bookstores. But what I love most, is meeting people, going places, and be inspired. So, will you say that first hello? (: Love, Val ❤
