Lazy Chic

Not sure if lazy chic is an actual thing but it certainly is in my book. As much as I like to look good, I’d also like it very very much if my skin could breathe – so a lot of times that comes down to non-suffocating clothes with comfortable material. And being able to spin that with style is what I’d like to think a personal achievement :). There can be many variations to lazy chic, between lazy and chic you can try anywhere from a 60/40 to a 40/60 split. Some lazy elements in a wardrobe include: loose, cotton, pockets, uncoordinated colors, sneakers / platforms, etc.; some chic elements include: clothing sets, crop tops, hair and makeup that took time, heels, appropriate accentuation of your figure, etc. This outfit I have here has a good balance of both elements, but I’d say it sits at 60 chic and 40 lazy at first impression. 

Hello, Paris

Think Paris and I conjure images of the Eiffel Tower soaring above the romantic city of lights. As the self-proclaimed hopeless romantic, I’ve always wanted to visit France and intimately appreciate the Eiffel Tower surrounded by Seine River and restless streets of Paris, but situate just distant enough to take it all in. Prettily dressed. Picture Perfect. I had finally made it happen this fall. Living in the interconnected world while being social media savvy, I must have seen the Eiffel from every possible angle through a screen (Eiffel Tower steals the show on Instagram as one of the most photographed attractions in the world). But I have to say, nothing levels the dynamic expression of the real thing. Time passed by without me noticing and I ended up spending hours at Champ de Mars with the perfect view. Blissful. Memorable.

Styling Capes

In my elementary school years, I recall a period when I was obsessed with Tuxedo Mask –  the handsome protagonist in the Sailor Moon series. He was known for unfailingly making heroic entrances in every episode in his black cape and saving the day. Perhaps it was since then I started fancying the idea of capes and the associated mysterious vibes. But certainly just because it looks dashing on a fictional character doesn’t mean it’ll have the same effect in real life. Then again, fast forwarding to now, capes are making a scene for themselves in the market as a popular style. While many of us admired the capes street sets, it just still looks like a cinch to pull off. Just recently I’ve taken the liberty to purchase this cape coat from shein.com to venture into the world of capes and it’s one of the best fashion decisions I’ve made in 2017. Contrary to popular beliefs, I think capes can be easily styled as there is a very fine line between the chic-of-the-chicest and throwing-stuff-on-not-knowing-what-I’m-doing, so just be confident …

Thigh High Boots

Lovelies! I know it’s been weeks since I blogged, but I’ve got some really good excuses – life has been keeping me ultra busy! I do have exciting updates to make up for it though 🙂 In the past 3 weeks, I vacationed to Las Vegas, and Los Angeles. I took lots of photos in LA so expect a series of outfit posts! I think I’m going to name it the “Val goes to Cali” series. I’ve also been occupied with paperwork…because I’ll be starting my a new job next week, who’s excited with me?! 🙂 Without deviating any further from the subject – here I have a recent favorite outfit to share featuring my newly purchased thigh-high boots! I’ve been a non-believer of thigh-highs for as long as I can remember, but this season I decided to give this trend a chance, annnnnnd I LOVE them! Whether in leather or suede, flat or platformed, these shoes are statement pieces that are surprisingly functional in cold weather. Sleeveless Waterfall Coat

Temperature in Toronto has been consistently floating around 5 degrees and it actually brings such a fashion challenge. What the weather entails is that I need to prepare for layers, especially since it’s too warm for winter parkas and too cold for spring coats. I’ve never been a fan of layering because while doing it right can be chic and powerful, it’s also easy to look chunky and noisy. However the most important thing that I’d like to promote is to obviously stay warm! The general formula includes – warm and comfy piece on your skin, like silk/cotton undershirt + a decently thick piece such as a hoodie/sweater/cardigan + a 3rd conclusive piece in wool material which keeps you dry and warm + optional step to accessorize to your heart’s content with scarves and boots. Here I’m wearing a long body hugging turtleneck  sweater, wool sleeveless waterfall coat, and some black chunky heels to finish off the look. I definitely think this outfit is more fall appropriate rather than for spring, but I was just so in love with my virgin sleeveless coat – it’s one of those pieces that …
