Styling Culottes

I’m definitely a late adopter of the culottes trend. My first impression of the trend was…who brought these back from the 90s? At a glance these wide legged pants strip femininity away from any outfit, and if people are going to wear it like a maxi skirt, then why not just wear a maxi skirt? So I went from the initial resistance, to repeatedly seeing these everywhere I go, to finally giving in to the FOMO (fear of missing out) mindset that “If others can rock it, then I can too”.

It didn’t take long before I realized the benefits of wearing culottes, it intelligently hides shape imperfections on the lower body, such as a overly wide or narrow hip, thicker thigh areas and lack of perfectly straight legs. The biggest sell point is obviously the comfort, it’s not an overstatement when I say these are more comfortable than sweatpants, and at the same time easily score higher on the chic meter.

To contrast the loose and wide bottom, I threw on a simple crop tube top in the opposing shade. Nothing sets black & white chic like a pair of brown suede strap sandal heels, and my brown suede choker is a matching detail that enable these shoes. The hat is not a necessity, but I felt it was appropriate to add some weight on top to balance out the heavy bottom.

If you’re like me and haven’t gotten to try a trend you’ve been eye-ing, do it before summer’s over! 🙂

  1. I think you look great. The length of these actually seem a bit shorter than what I’ve been seeing on others. It suits you, but I’m not sure I’m ready to try this…
